Current Trends in Camping Gear for Kids

Camping is a fun activity that families can do together. Introducing your children to the great outdoors is one of the most memorable and fun things you can do with them. They'll always remember the special times they spent camping with you. Not only will they enjoy themselves, but they'll learn more about the natural world and the value of removing themselves from technology and getting back to basics every now and then. There is a lot of camping gear for kids offered in stores these days. No matter what age your child is, you can find the perfect equipment for them.

It's a good idea to take them shopping with you. If you're shopping online, let them sit beside you and choose their own items. A child will feel their camping supplies are all the more special if they selected them. You can find sleeping bags and sets made especially for kids that feature fun designs and even favorite cartoon characters. For example, a little girl might love a Barbie sleeping bag while a little boy might go nuts over a Spiderman one. If you're going to be doing some fishing on your trip, you'll also find child-friendly fishing gear as well lining store shelves. One of the coolest new items is the Rocket Fishing Rod, which casts perfectly every time with the push of a button and uses a hook hiding bobber for safety.

Kids will need appropriate sunscreen, their own eating utensils, cups, bowls and plates, extra clothing, plenty of easy snacks, and some fun activities. Speaking of activities, there are lots of ways to keep your kids busy if they get bored. Give them a disposable camera and let them snap photos of their surroundings. Bring plenty of board games or their favorite handheld video game. Teach them campfire songs to sing and make sure to bring Smores supplies. Simply place a square of chocolate and a roasted marshmallow in between two graham cracker squares and enjoy!

Camping gear for kids can be purchased in the sporting goods area of most all purpose stores like Wal-Mart and Target. Or, you can buy them online. There are plenty of online retailers and shops that sell only outdoor gear, some catering to young children. With the right supplies and activities, your child will be happy and comfortable on their first camping trip and will remember the fun and magic for the rest of their lives. Your family camping trip just might go so well that it becomes a beloved tradition!
